Restricted free agents

Requirement for offer sheets

In order to be able to make a valid offer sheet for a restricted free agent (RFA), GMs must have their own picks of the immediately following years, which are required for a compensation. If said picks are missing in whole or in part, the offer sheet is deleted by the simulation manager (this requires a reload or a repetition of the simulation).

Submission of an offer sheet

Before an offer sheet is submitted to the EHM, it must be posted in the corresponding channel on the Discord server. The rights-owning GM must also be contacted (the contract details must be transmitted). This enables the GM concerned to be able to deal with the offer sheet in sufficient time. It also enables the league management to check whether the requirements for the offer sheet have been met.

The league management will approve the offer sheet in the Discord channel for input in the EHM.

Process in brief:

1. Check in the EHM how much the player demands, whether your own board releases enough funds and how high the compensation is. Then cancel the process.

2. Post the desired offer sheet in the Discord channel and inform the rights-owning GM.

3. Wait for the league management to approve the offer sheet.

4. After approval, enter and confirm the offer sheet in the EHM.

This procedure is necessary because the EHM does not check whether the GM submitting the offer sheet has the picks in the immediately following draft or not. The EHM only checks whether you generally have own picks needed for compensation.

Acceptance of an offer sheet

Once a RFA accepts an offer sheet ingame, the rights to this player can no longer be part of a possible trade. The GM concerned now has time until the next in-game simulation to consider whether he will match the offer sheet or not. If the offer sheet is not matched, the GM who submitted the offer sheet is obliged to keep the player in the franchise for at least one year. The player can then be part of a trade again from July 1 of the following year.

Compensations

The compensations shown in the EHM apply. This can be determined by entering the desired offer sheet and then confirming it. The information about the compensation is then displayed. The offer sheet is only active after the compensation has been confirmed.

Salary arbitration

Starting in the second half of "Free Agent Month", salary arbitration can occur for RFAs that have not yet been contracted or released. A short-term bridge contract is negotiated with the RFA by an uninvolved party.

In the EHM this means that you either have to immediately agree to this bridge contract or have to release the RFA. In this case, the RFA immediately receives UFA status, but the dismissal requires a cap penalty. Since this has to happen during the simulation and cannot be delayed, the simulation manager has to make a decision here. The procedure is as follows:

1. Check whether the GM concerned is present in the Discord during the simulation.

(a) If so, the GM concerned makes the necessary decision.

(b) If not, the simulation manager will make the decision to the best of his knowledge and belief.

2. Check the franchise's cap and roster situation

(a) If they allow the RFA to be signed, the simulation manager will usually agree to the arbitration.

(b) If these do not allow the RFA to be signed, the simulation manager will release the RFA at the cost of a cap penalty.

At this point, the league management explicitly recommends that you deal with your own restricted free agents promptly and either submit contractual offers to them or release the rights on them.
